Physiotherapy is the treatment and prevention of physical injuries and movement problems. Education and prevention measures help patients gain the highest possible level of independent function. A physiotherapist is sometimes called a physical therapist. The terms mean the same thing.

Patients do not need a referral to be treated by a physiotherapist.

Your physiotherapist will take a history, perform a physical examination and develop a treatment plan with you. Your treatment plan may include customized exercises, manual therapy or any of the treatment listed in our treatment section.

Physiotherapists must complete a university program and meet strict professional standards before practicing. A physiotherapist must be registered by Health Professions Council of Namibia (HPC) and Namibian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) to practice.

We offers a free 15min consultation with a physiotherapist to determine if your condition can be treated by physiotherapy but you have to make an appointment.

On your first visit your physiotherapist reviews your injury or condition and plans a treatment program for you. This included the following: Questions about your present condition and health history. Physiotherapy examination to assess your injury or condition. This can sometimes temporarily increase your pain. Review of your assessment findings with a recommended treatment plan. Your consent to treatment.

Various questions about your condition and how it occurred are asked. Your health history helps the physiotherapist understand your current condition. The nature of the pain, such as location and intensity you are currently experiencing or have had in the past. Your personal and family history. Medications you are taking. Treatments you have had recently or in the past. The physical requirements of your job, lifestyle or leisure activities that may affect your condition or treatment. The physiotherapist does a physical evaluation. Changing or removing clothes may be required to see the problem area. The physiotherapist may touch the problem area to see if there is any tenderness, swelling, or heat. Using their hands, they may test the problem area to see if weakness exists, if movement is limited, and how much pain there is.

“If you are happy with our physiotherapy service, encourage you to tell others. If you are not satisfied, please tell us” Successful physiotherapy is based on good communication between you and your physiotherapist. Your physiotherapist may not be aware there is a problem unless you tell them. If after discussing your concerns you are still not satisfied, please ask to speak to the Practice Manager.

We require 2 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you give LESS THAN 2 hours’ notice we reserve the right to charge you a nominal fee of $100.00 (Namibian dollars). To reschedule, please call (064) 209871.

Wear something that provides us with easy access to the part of your body that you want help with. Your safest is to bring a loose pair of shorts (and ladies should bring a tank-top that shows off the shoulder blade area), no matter what you are being seen for.

No. A doctor’s referral is not required to see a physical therapist.

Your treatment will begin with an extensive assessment that may include health history, evaluation of pain and movement patterns, strength, joint range of motion, relaxes, sensation, and heart and lung function. Based on this assessment, your physiotherapist will establish a diagnosis and work in partnership with you to develop an individualized treatment program and prognosis. Expect your physiotherapist to guide you in performing therapeutic exercises in between appointments. Your progress will be monitored at follow-up visits and your physiotherapist may adjust your treatment according to changes in your body. For more details, please see our new patients page.

Your treatment plan will involve education, exercise, and manual therapy components. Depending on your condition, this may include mobilization, manual therapy, work hardening, techniques and modalities to reduce pain, acupuncture, corrective techniques to improve heart and lung function and cardiac conditioning, demonstration of therapeutic exercise, and education about your condition, treatment plan and prognosis for getting better.
